… As it evacuates Decades Refuse sites in Thirteen Communities
The Atwima Kwanwoma district assembly in Ashanti region with it mandate to provide effective sanitation has evacuated over 13 communities confronting with heavy refuse challenge.
According to the assembly, various complain have brought before them indicating the challenges the communities are going through.
The communities which benefitted from the evacuation exercise are Adum Afrancho, Odumase, Bebu, Akosomo, Kyekyewere, Traboum, Foase, Darko and other places. In an interview with the district chief executive,Hon.Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi on why the assembly could not do it until now, he said, environmental pollution is hazardous and generates various kinds of diseases and if the previous government could not do it, that doesn’t means the NPP government also should allow it people to suffer.

Sanitation, the DCE said, has become a major challenge in the country but it can be solve if the mindset of the people in this country is totally change so that the fight will end.
Hon Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi said, like many towns and cities in Ghana, some of the people of Atwima Kwanwoma district have not been fully educated on how to disposed of waste, especially the solid ones and that if this thing can be done it should be a national war and not individual fight.
Throwing more light on sanitation and how the district assembly will not leave any stone unturned, he explained that sanitation is the management and delivery of clean, hygienic conditions that helps prevent future diseases through services such as drinking water supply, garbage collection and safe disposal of human waste and that if ‘’we are able to control this canker, future diseases can be prevented.
Nana Okyere Tawiah hinted that Ghana is among the countries in world with Sanitation problems but the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, the President of the republic of Ghana will ensure the sanitation issues that have become albatross on the neck of all will be given proper attention.
Some communities lacks where they can dump their waste and as a result from that they intend throw it anywhere they may find themselves which could generate diseases but if the waste are been control with effective supervision, Ghana and for that matter,Atwima Kwanwoma will be safe place without any fear of disease.
The DCE was of the view that, open defecation also is a challenge because some landlords who rent out accommodation facilities to their tenants fails to in set toilet facilities in their homes and imagine what will happen, he asked.
Furthermore, Hon.Nana Okyere Tawiah noted that, the current pace is nothing to write home about, he was hopeful Atwima Kwanwoma district could achieve sanitation free within his turner of office as the district chief executive if he is been supported by the people in the various communities and a proper actions are expedited on all fronts.
He therefore called on all to avoid the habit of dumping refuse into drains and that there should be a strict enforcement of sanitation laws to give proper accounts of effective sanitation.
The DCE thanked his staff and the assembly members for their inflicting support they have rendered to him to wage war on sanitation.
