Sunday Ayodele from Nigeria beat Ghana’s two top players to win the first prize of the Homowo Open at the Hathiramani Sports Hall at the Accra sports stadium on Saturday August 4, 2018.
He defeated Number 2 seed Felix Lartey at the Semi Final and took out Number 1 seed Derek Abrefa at the grand Final. Emmanuel Commey took the fourth prize.
Eva Adom Amankwaa also proved to be the girl to watch in the future as she also beat the popular top female players.
Beatrice Gyasi could not use her experience over the young rising star and placed second, while Cylia Baah Danso maintained her form as ‘ if the the best, then with the best’ and got the third prize. Lynda Annor who lost form recently has warmed herself back into the best four.
Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, President of the Ghana Table Tennis Federation (GTTF) who watched the finals urged the Ghanaian players to take their training very serious as the tournament has gained international status, and now players from other African countries are participating.
He said the game of Table Tennis is becoming popular day by day, and corporate bodies like Stanbic Bank and others are now investing into the sport, so players, officials and organisers should give off their best to ensure classis shows.
He congratulated all the players and media as well as fans who watched the tournament and made the Hathiramani Sports Hall the place to be.
