Agogo District Police Commander, ASP Samuel Azagu, has been replaced following recent cattle herding-related disturbances in the area.
ASP Azagu will henceforth operate in Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of the Ashanti Region while DSP Joe Appiah takes over from him.
Three soldiers and a police officer who were members of the Operation Cow Leg task force were shot during a gun battle with Fulani herdsmen on Monday, 9 January at Serebourso near Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District.
District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asante Akyem North, Francis Oti Boateng, who confirmed the transfer, said the new commander has promised to help solve the violence in the district as far as cattle herding is concerned.
Mr Oti Boateng told the media after the District Security Council emergency meeting on Tuesday that he was happy with the replacement of ASP Azagu.
The DCE refuted claims that politicians have cattle in the area, thus, the difficulty in dealing with the Fulani menace. He revealed that he is aware of persons who have cattle in the area but could not find any politician’s name on the list.
He also indicated that farmers in the area have been advised not to go to farm in the next seven days to prevent any attacks until further security advice.
