Ghana: Political Governance In 2017 Poor – CDD Report

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has described as poor the political governance and culture of President Nana Akufo Addo led government as poor and lacking strong will especially in the fight against corruption. 
Professor Emmanuel Gyimah-Boadi, fellow, CDD cataloged some of the positive sides and short coming of the NPP Administration saying President Akufo Addo in 2017 demonstrated a positive style of leadership as Head of State although more could have been done.
He said the administration has kept faith with the Constitution. The President and his Ministers declared their asset but in the his opinion the President failed to publicly declare his asset although the law did not demand him to do so.
However, there were several short comings identified under the Akufo Addo regime in 2017. The government undertook wholesale removal of CEOs appointed by the ex Mahama  government.
Also, there was an over blotted government reflecting in unprecedented Ministerial appointments of 110 officers of State.
Similarly, there was a total of 45 Ambassadors and High Commissioners appointments with 39 being political appointments.
“We continue to suffer offensive public about of power. President Akufo Addo has served to himself a lawyer and judge at the same time “, he lamented.
Furthermore, Professor Gyimah-Boadi, said, “there has not been enough positive change in the way the country was governed.”
He further noted that Nana Addo handling of corruption worrying and his inability to check his followers and vigilant youths as troubling for the future of the State.
On his part, Dr. Eric Oduro-Osae, a Local Government Expert commended government for implementing the Free SHS flagship program and setting up the Secretariat but was quick to add that government must decentralize the secretariat in other to realize its full success.
Dr. Kojo Asante, CDD-Ghana fellow also said the government must learn not to make unambiguous promises.
“The President must ensure that National prorities are laid above partisan interest”, he said.
Lastly, the CDD is of the view that government need to increase the risk in involving yourself in corruption.
