The Member of Parliament for the Gomoa West Constituency and Board Member of Akyeampim Rural Bank, Hon. Alexander Kodwo Abban has warned that the Board will not sit aloof for any member of staff to cook figures to siphon the coffers of the Bank.
His warning came at a time that the Bank is faced with serious financial constraints as a result of fraudulent activities by some dismissed members of staff of the Bank, leading to serious drain in the Bank’s financial position.
The MP, who is also a lecturer in Banking Law at the Ghana Law School gave the warning during the 31st Annual General Meeting of the Bank.
Some of the fraudulent activities that were carried out by the dismissed staff includes withdrawals from customer’s accounts, suppression of Susu collections, theft from money transfers, issuance of the Bank’s Payment Order for their personal transactions, obtaining receipts of items not purchased and pocketing the monies, pocketing monies meant for official duties, granting personal loans without documentations and stealing monies from the Bank and re-investing same at higher interest rates to make huge margins, among others things.
He later charged the current staff to exhibits good conduct and respect towards the few remaining customers, so as to win back the confidence of the people.
Akyeampim Rural Bank, according to the Central Regional President of the Association of Rural Banks (ARB), Mr. Frank Owusu joins 5 of the 21 Rural Banks in the Region whose financial position is facing severe challenges as a result of mismanagement and malfeasance.
