Assembly Members of Birim Central sworn in to office

Twenty eight Assembly Members , including four women, has been sworn into office at the Birim Central Municipal Assembly to oversee its activities for the next four years.

Twenty-eight, including the four women, are government appointees.
Two woman where elected during the just ended District Level Elections in the Municipality.

The Assembly, however, failed to elect a presiding member after an attempts by the two contenders, Mr Solomon Dadzie and Mr Abolo, who could not secure the two-thirds majority to win.

During the first round of voting, Mr Solomon Dadzie polled 15 votes, whilst Mr.Abolo pulled 13 votes.

The Assembly, therefore, postponed the elections in accordance with the Local Government Act 936.

The Deput Minister of Attorney General Hon. Godfred Dame in his speech challen the newly sworn in Assembly Member to advance the implementation of Government programmes in the Co-ordinated Programme of Economic and Social Development Policy 2017-2024.

According to him Government is pursuing a number of policies and programmes aimed at improving the wefare and well being of Ghanaians including free SHS,One district one factory, planting for food and jobs, planting for export’s and rural development, one village one dam among others.

Let me remind you again that you being inuagurated at a time when effort are been made by Government, through the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, to enhance internally generated funds (IGFs) of MMDAs, particularly in the area of property rates.

He urged them to take advantage of automation and other innovative systems developed by the Ministry to improve your IGF of the Assembly.

The Municipal Chief Executive of Birim Central Mrs Victoria Adu said Assembly Members and Unit Committee Representatives occupy very significant positions in Ghanas decentralization process so she ask the Assembly members to maintain close contact with the electoral area of the district.

She asks them to consult the people living in the Municipality on issues to be discussed in the Municipal Assembly and collate their views, opinion and proposal.

She urge the Assembly members to support the Assembly’s internally revenue mobilisation generation which will not only enable the Assembly to embark on it’s development projects but also provide some level of motivation to enable members deliver effectively on their mandate.

She entreat Nananom and all stakeholders to give massive support and cooperation to the Assembly Members and their Unit Committee Representatives to bring development to the Municipality and the country as a whole.

The Chief of Akyem Nkwanta Nana Gyamina Akenten ii implore the Assembly Members to bury their political difference and work hand in hand for the development of the Municipality.

He asks them to work in unity and understanding.

Nana Gyamina Akenten ii said this year is election year so he plead with politicians to do away with politics of insult and personal attacks rather they should debate on issues.
