70% Of All Mothers Are Single Parents

It has been revealed that about seventy percent of all Ghanaian mothers are single parents.

The situation is said to be as a result of neglect by some men who put those women in the family way.

This was revealed by the Queenmother of Gomoa Benso and President of Gomoa Aboso/Benso/Ekroful/Akropong [ABEA] Nananom Council, Nana Eduokuaa II ahead of this year’s Mothers Day celebration.

Speaking to Newsghana.com at her palace, Nana Eduokuaa hinted that some fathers have become so irresponsible that they do not deserve to be classified as fathers.

She noted that the situation is becoming so alarming that majority of children will become fatherless in the near future if care is not taken, and therefore called on society to help address the problem to reverse the trend.

According to her, the future life of every child depends upon the kind of upbringing he or she receives from the parents, especially mothers, and said there is therefore the need for society to respoect the role of mothers not only as caretakers of the home, but also as developers of the life of the child.

She later commended the Member of Parliament for her area, Mrs. Naana Eyiah Quansah for supporting the welfare of the aged in the area and also on her new appointment as Deputy Minister by the president, as well as the District Chief Executive of the area, Benjamin Kojo Otoo for also contributing to the course.
