One of the Islamic sects in the country, Ahlussunna Wal-Jama’a has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for taking a tougher stand not to legalize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI+) movement and activities in the country.
The sect have consequently called on government not to succumb to pressure from some western countries to allow the activities to be practised in the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, the National Organizer of ASWAJ, Mr. Swallah Ahmed Dabre said the practice is alien to the country’s religious and socio-cultural norms and beliefs and at variance with the laws of Allah (God).
“We also called on the American President, Mr. Joe Biden and other western powers, spearheading and advocating for the legalization of homosexuality must rather channel their resources towards the development of Ghana and other African countries,” he said.
He said it is clearly stated in the Holy Qur’an 30:21 “And among His signs is this, that He created for you wives or helpmates from yourselves that you may find rest in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Those are indeed signs for a people who reflect”.
Swallah Ahmed Dabre added that some faceless human right advocates are championing the activities of the LGBTQI+ people in the country with the primary objective that their rights are being violated and was quick to ask that “do they have the right to practise gay or lesbianism and explained however that the practice does not conform to the laws of the land.
“ASWAJ is of the view that there are political heavyweights behind the said body and are fervently funding and resourcing the group to enable them operate their activities in the country,” he charged and called on government and other religious bodies to vehemently kick against LGBTQI+ in the country.
He therefore challenged parents to teach their children good moral values acceptable to society and ensure that they are not lured by members of the same sex groups.
“The sect therefore call on Ghanaians especially Muslims to be law abiding and must not attack persons suspected to be in the unions,” he added.
