Fighting COVID-19 Disinfection exercise to hit Kwahu West Municipality on Saturday

Market activities will be closed to the public from 5:00pm on Friday 3rd April, 2020 to 10:00am on Sunday 5th April, 2020 to allow city authorities carry out a disinfection exercise in all markets and lorry parks within the Municipality.

This was contained in a statement made to journalists in a press briefing by the Municipal public health emergency committee, headed by Hon. Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo, the MCE of the assembly.

The Municipal Coordinating Director Hon Alhaji Issah Mussa, addressing the Media indicated, that the assembly has received and acted on a couple of directives from the presidency since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic in the country and therefore deems it necessary to brief the press on progress made so far and the way forward.

Addressing the media on the various steps being taking by the Municipal assembly to curtail the spread of the virus within his jurisdiction, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Lawyer Yaw Owusu Addo stated that, the assembly has met with all stakeholders to discuss and agree on several initiatives and directives, most of which comes from the presidency such as adherence to social distancing, regular washing of hands and sanitizing, avoiding hugs and hand shaking.

He further noted that the assembly has again provided veronica buckets and sanitizers at several vantage points where there is public congestion including the procurement of PPE’s, monitoring and detective gadgets to test persons who sojourned to Nkawkaw due to the partial lockdown from other parts of the country for possible cases.

According to the MCE, market activities will be closed to the public from Friday 5:00 pm to Sunday 10:00am to allow for disinfection exercises in all markets and lorry parks within the municipality.

“Aside the disinfection exercise, all traders especially those who sell non perishable goods such as clothes, used clothing, shoes, silvers and bowls, touch lights and all such items will be relocated to a special market at Akuajo. Others who sell vegetables and other food items but do not have sheds in the market will also be relocated to the market annex. It should be noted that the same applies to shop owners who bring their goods unto pavements for sale. We are taking all these steps to decongest the markets and public places”he said.

The MCE however lauded the media for their continuous support in educating and advocacy in enlightening the public on their safety in these unusual times and pleaded with public, trader and driver unions to also sacrifice their quota and avoid the culture of idiosyncrasy.

Mrs Celestine Asante, the Municipal Health Director also reiterated the fact that the Kwahu West Municipality has so far not recorded any COVID-19 case and called on residents to adhere to the preventive measures than cure.

The Municipal public health emergency committee was composed of municipal environmental health officer, public health engineer, GES deputy director, disaster prevention coordinator, national ambulance service, Divisional MTTD commander, Municipal Immigration commander, Information service officer, Divisional crime officer, District crime officer, Municipal fire service commander, BNI officer, Divisional police commander, Municipal coordinating director and headed by the Municipal Chief Executive.
