Ideal Ladies, one of the popular female football clubs in Accra founded in 2005 are appealing to Ghanians and Companies in Ghana for support to enable them play in the Greater Accra Regional Women’s League.
Founder of the club Dzromo Adzekwei, a former national team, the Black Queens player said she and a few executives have been taking care of the club with over 35 players, but 28 have been registered for the league.
She named the executives as Dan Ashley, Abdul Lanre, coach Henry Mettle assisted by William Deku and Gifty Asante, all of them have affection for the game.
According to Adzekwei who is the General Secretary of the Retired National Women Footballers Association of Ghana, running female football is not easy as most of the players are students, who come to training from far places.
She hinted that most of her girls are very good with average heights and very skillful. She boasted that some of her players have earned national call ups and featured for the Black Maidens and Black Princesses.
Adzekwei who has also been football administrator and served the national youth female team as Welfare Officer / Team Manager with the victorious Black Maidens who went to the 2012 World Championships in Azerbaijan and brought home the bronze medal said she is looking forward for more glory and achievement with Ghana Female Football.
The former defender who was famous with scissor kicks expressed that any sort of support or sponsorship is welcome because she cannot stop managing the side that have always performed remarkably in the league and are now leading the current league log of the Greater Accra League.
Known as the ‘Flying Saucer’ in her playing days due to her aerial abilities, the ex Poscom and Ghatel Accra star said she is on record as the only ex female footballer who has founded a club, hence supporting her is a positive initiative.
She is grateful to the Ghana Football Association GFA for noticing her contribution to Ghana Football and making her part of the handlers of the national female teams.
She also appealed for recognition from the media because most ex Black Queens players are finding it difficult to give back to the game, which they hope to do.
