Let’s Hold Politicians Accountable To Their Promise – Rev. Daniel Oppong-Wereko

The Swedru District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and minister in charge of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Rev. Daniel Oppong-Wereko has advised the youth in the country not to allow themselves to be used by any Political party or politician to engage in fomenting trouble that will mar the peace of the country, during and after the elections.

Speaking at the Climax of a Youth Summit on Peace organized by Women Situation Room, a non-governmental, non-denominational, non-political Organization on the theme: “Peace in Our Hands” at Agona Swedru on the eve of the elections, Rev. Oppong-Wereko stressed that rather the youth should see election as an opportunity to hold politicians accountable to the numerous promises they make when seeking for power, and not as a period of causing trouble for someone to achieve his parochial interest.

Addressing the Summit, the Deputy Central Regional Coordinator of the Organization, Mr. Richard Bentum hinted that as part of its vision of ensuring peace during elections, the Organization which is made up of nurses, teachers, students and other social workers including both Christian and Muslim youth in collaboration with the Youth Ministry of the Presbyterian Church embarked on a massive education campaign in all the 33 constituencies in the Central Region to educate the people, particularly the youth on the need to promote peace during and after the elections.

The Summit was attended by youths from all walks of life.
