Maclean Kwofi, a reporter with the Graphic Business and Nana Esi Boateng, a reporter with Oman FM have been adjudged best Maritime Reporters for Print and Electronic respectively at the 24th Ghana Journalists Awards held in Accra.

Speaking on Eye on Port, live on national television Maclean Kwofi called upon agencies in the port and maritime industry to make information regarding the ports and maritime industry more accessible to journalists so they can equally disseminate to the public accordingly.

“It is very difficult getting information. I travel months sometimes to get some stories. You need to speak to a lot of people to understand the whole dynamics because you cannot just present the figures,” he stated.

He also appealed to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Ghana Shippers Authority and the Ghana Maritime Authority to support Journalists to deepen their understanding of the industry through educational programmes.

“These organisations should find a way to support journalists in the area of education,” he said,

The reporter for Graphic Business, said he filed three stories with the GJA which included one year of paperless at the Ports, a feature on the relationship between MPS and GPHA and another feature on the Cargo Tracking Note policy.

Maclean Kwofi urged journalists to take keen interest in Maritime reporting and not to be discouraged by some terminologies and data which are difficult to break down.
