Six young budding local athletes have been named to join the 2019/ 2020 GNPC Speedsters Club.
They are Abdul Rasheed Samini, Grace Obuor, Latifa Ali, Edwin Gadayi, Kate Agyeman and Afaxoe Harry Remember.
They were mentioned and some were introduced at the impressive launch of the 2020 edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human at the Press Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.
Reks Brobbey announced that they are the fourth batch to be inducted into the Speedsters Club, and knows that his dream of getting a Ghanaian to win an Olympic medal in the sprint events will come to pass.
Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, special adviser to the Minister of Youth & Sports promised to be involved in the selection of athletes to represent Ghana at international competition, and offer them scientific training to excel like other world class stars from Jamaica and Kenya.
Nana Bediatuo Asante, Secretary to the President of the Republic of Ghana who was the Special Guest of Honour said the concept conceived and put out by former national athlete and Olympian, Reks Brobbey must be continued till Ghana gets an Olympic medal in the sprints event.
He expressed that the dream of Brobbey could be realized if all who are supposed to support come and play their respective roles.
He noted that the Ghana Fastest Human is a public private partnership initiative, and every sports lover must appreciate and contribute to its success.
He commended companies like GNPC and GCB Bank who are backing the initiative, and extoled Reks Brobbey for his vision for monumental achievement.
Madam Carmen Bruce – Annan, Corporate Affairs of GNPC said putting Ghana first is what her company admires and they are excited to be the major sponsor of the programme.
Mr. Anslem Ray Sowah, MD of GCB Bank expressed that the programme is laudable, and hoped that Ghana will once again rule the athletics tracks like they did at the 1954 Commonwealth Games.
Nene Nagai Kasa VIII, Paramount Chief of Agomeda who chaired the function called on Ghanaians and companies to support the Ghana Fastest Human programme as it is a laudable and worthy to be associated with.
The exciting Die Hard Supporters Union were present at the ceremony to entertain the guests.
