Some residents of Obeye, a suburb within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality are sending a strong signal to encroachers especially the disputed Gbetsile chief who are using the name of the President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice Alhaji Bawumia to lay claims to their lands, to desist from such acts.
The residents say, they are constantly chased and harassed by land guards and some people from the office of the disputed Chief of Gbetsile who claim Obeye lands have been allocated to the President and his vice as well as some senior cabinet Ministers.
According to residents, the disputed Gbetsile chief and his cohorts do not own the Obeye lands and are sending signal to them to stay off their property.
The residents of Obeye made the claims when some well built soldiers together with some civilians in a V8 vehicle with registration number BA 3785-17 purported to be coming from the Jubilee House on Thursday afternoon stormed the Obeye prayer camp in an attempt to provide supervision for an illegal grading exercise takibg place in the area.
But, the exercise did not come off as Obeye residents largely made up of women marched to the site to prevent the exercise from taking place.
The residents say, “we are constantly chased and harassed by people from the office of the disputed Gbetsile Chief who claim Obeye lands are theirs; several complaints and reports made to the police and other stakeholders seem to be getting little attention. We are however not surprised their illegality has taken a different shift as they are now using the name of the Presidency and that of the former senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo to carry out their criminal agenda.”
They are thus pleading with the Presidency to as a matter of urgency direct an investigation into the allegations being made to avoid any future clash.
One of the women, Abigail Okoe said they will not sit and allow their inheritance to be taken away from them by some people who work with the disputed Gbetsile chief.
“we shall protect this land with our lives because this is the only property we inherited from our great grand father’s,” she said
For some time now, Obeye lands have been in the news for the bad reasons as residents complain of constant land guards attacks. Developers are equally unable to carry out their development as they are always been harassed and beaten by land guards who claim to be working from the office of the disputed Chief.
The Head of Kojowe Clan at Obeye, Numo Naanatse who is octogenarian was unhappy with the rate at which he and his people are constantly harassed. He said Obeye land has been an inheritance of the people of Obeye for several years now and is surprised at what seem to be happening in recent times.
He appealed to the President to look into the matter and ensure some people are brought to book to avoid any future clash.
