Tema Fishing Harbour Holds Second Quarter Stakeholders Meeting

The Tema Fishing Harbour has held its second quarter stakeholders meeting to discuss appropriate measures to ensure safety in and around the fishing harbour.

The General Manager of Tema fishing harbour, Kumi Adjei- Sam disclosed that, work has progressed steadily on the health post which will cater for the health needs of workers at fishing harbour.

“Most of the block works have been completed and we are now fixing the plumbing works, water supply system and sewage lines. We are hoping that by august ending it will be completed.

In order to promote good sanitation conditions, he said there have been renovation and rehabilitation works on the canoe basin.

A Fire Officer from the Tema Port Fire and Safety department, Andrew Teinor took time to explain the dangers associated with the use of gas cylinders at the fishing harbor and advised on how to handle them properly.

“When it comes to the key players at the fishing harbour, we realised that most of the cylinders you use are oxygen bottles and when it comes to the handling of these cylinders we realise that there are not being handled properly,” he said.

Alexander Sasu from the National Communication Authority entreated vessel owners to renew licenses of their vessels yearly as failure to do so means they will be out of business.
