Traditionalist Must Be Part Of Our COVID-19 Fight Strategies – Asaki Awingobit Urges President

Executive Secretary of the Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana and a presidential Aspirant of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit said the President must involve Traditionalist in the fight against the deadly and Novel Corona Virus.

Although he lauded the President and the Vice President for holding a prayer sessions with the leadership of the Christian Council and the Islamic Community respectively, he said the country must not neglect the traditional foundation on which these two religious sects were birthed.

He said, Traditionalists over the years have played significant roles in the peaceful dispensation of the country hence the need for the president to meet the Traditional council just as he did with the Christian council and the Muslim community.

In a Press Release he issued to that effect, Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobi stated that, “Wednesday’s prayer meeting between the President and the leadership of the Christian Council, coupled with a similar one held between the Vice President and that of the Islamic Community on Thursday are commendable by all standard, however we must not as a country neglect the traditional foundation on which these two sects were birth from.”

He averred that Ghanaians for the past decades have been familiar with the nuances of the government when it comes to seeking the face of God and ideas in addressing national issues, but that “it would also be prudent if the Presidency also accord the same respect and platform to the leadership of the Traditional Council whom the statement said equally possesses much influence on the populace. With the role traditional leaders, Priests and Priestesses play in our national discourse I believe their prayers and ideas are much needed in times like this.”

He said: “Moving forward, I urge government to strengthen the various institutions mandated to fight the COVID-19 outbreak. I believe the growing number of COVID-19 cases, has the propensity of exacerbating the situation of fear amongst the populace. And for that matter government must act swiftly,” advising the general public to stay safe and adhere to the various directives and measures put in place by the government in these trying times.

He also urged government to strengthen institutions mandated to fight the virus because the growing number of cases has the tendency of worsening the situation.
