The high rate of divorce of marriages in recent times has been attributed to bad counseling the some of the couples go through.
The founder and General Overseer of the Overcomers Royal Sanctuary [Armour of God Parish] at Agona Swedru, Apostle Joshua Kobina Darko Spokwell who made the revelation at a Seminar for Couples over the weekend organized by the Church pointed out that counseling is a special gift that is given to some people by God, and as such not every Pastor automatically becomes a good counselor.
He noted that most marriages have suffered divorce because they were supervised by Pastors who are not ordained with the gift of counseling, and therefore could not give any meaningful advice to the couple when the need arise, especially in times of misunderstanding in the marriage.
He also mentioned conditionality’s such as properties, wealth beauty and the like that some people use as criteria for their marriage, stressing that when those conditionality’s are no more, the marriage is bent to hit the rocks.
He hinted that marriage is a union instituted by God between a man and a woman contracted by God and therefore advice would-be couples to always seek the consent of their families first, and not that of their Pastors.
He also condemned the preference of lavish weddings by some of the couples, particularly the women, stressing that it is a borrowed Western culture with its associated cost which often leads to high indebtedness and most cases leading to divorce.
He described as the best and acceptable form of marriage where all the necessary rites are performed and accepted by both families of the couple, and not the lavish ceremonies and their associated which often leads to divorce.
