Call the Acting Director General of NLA to order immediately – CLAAG to President

A group calling itself the Concerned Lotto Agents Association Of Ghana (CLAAG) is demanding, as a matter of urgency, that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo calls the acting Director General of NLA , Mr. Ernest Mortey, to order immediately as regards the decision to close down some operators.

According to the group, the President and the nation has a lot to lose because the private lotto operators have a total membership of about two million people and if the right things are not done the government may find a fertile source of income and also promote employment.

Speaking to press , the Executive Secretary of Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana CLAAG, Mr. Kwaku Duah Tawiah, disclosed that it has come to their notice that the New Director General of NLA Mr. Ernest Mortey , who is in acting capacity has been sending letters to some lotto operators to close down their business.

This to Association , the Acting Director General’s action is very unfortunate and baseless which government should immediately bring him to order .

The Executive Secretary further stated in categorically that he is in acting capacity and therefore he don’t have power to write such letter. “We want to ask him of his reference of appointment that give him the power to do that. This agreements were approved by the board and signed by a substantive Director General so what right has he sot to write those letters,” he stressed.

Mr. Kwaku Duah, indicated that CLAAG have been at peace with the government and they don’t want that peace to be threatened because of the behavior of some government officials and statements coming from some officials of the Public Relations Department of NLA.

The group also complained about the monies extorted from private lotto operators by former Director General, albeit huge sums of money as registration fee for registering private lotto operators to operate but to-date it had not happened and the monies had not been refounded and the monies not accounted for,” they added.

In of their view, the dual and conflicting roles of the NLA is causing a lot of problems for private lotto operators. In the light of this , they are therefore appealing to President to call for a stakeholders consultation before appointing the CEO and the Board”.

Concerned Lotto Agents Association of Ghana CLAAG are also calling the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Akufo Addo and his government to bring the Acting Director General of NLA Mr. Ernest Mortey to order immediately to avoid any confusion between the two party’s.
