Ghana participate in the 2nd CANA Zone 2 Junior Championship

Ghana is participating in the 2nd CANA Zone 2 Junior Swimming Championship. It is a competition for swimmers in G1 (13-14yrs) and G2(15-16yrs) categories, zone 2 consist of all West Africa countries n Central Africa consisting of 22 countries.

DAY 1 : 27/10/17

Day 1 started in two parts, that is morning and afternoon sessions

Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh and Kow Asafua Jackson swam in the 50metres butterfly G1 Boys category, Kow Asafua Jackson won Silver and Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh won Gold

Ryan De Graft placed third in 100m Butterfly and won Bronze.

Afternoon Session had

Rebecca Gayathri Asare winning Gold in 100metres Backstroke Girls G1 category.

Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh won Silver in 100 metres Backstroke Boys G1 category

Kow Asafua Jackson won the 200metres freestyle Boys G1 category

Maayaa Ayawere won Gold in 100metres freestyle Boys G1 category.

Maayaa Ayawere, Ryan DeGraft Ackun, Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh, Rebecca Gayathri Asare won silver in the 4 x 50metres freestyle mixed relay to climax Day 1 events.

Day2: 28/10/17

Rebecca Korantemaa Gayathri Asare won Bronze in the Girls Backstroke G1 Girls category

*Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh wins Gold in 50metres Backstroke G1 Boys

*In 100metres Breaststroke G1 Girls saw Maayaa Ayawere grabbing silver.

*Whiles Kow Asafua Jackson grabs Gold in the 100metres Breaststroke G1 Boys Category

*Kow Asafua Jackson swam again in the 200 metres individual medley G1 boys category and won Silver

The morning session was climax by the power quartet (Ekow Gwira, Nii Kortei Armah, Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh, Kow Asafua Jackson)grab silver in 100metres freestyle relay G1 Boys .

Afternoon session started with Maayaa Ayawere finishing with Gold in 50metres Freestyle G1 Girls category

* Kow Asafua Jackson grabs Gold whiles Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh won Silver in 50metres freestyle G1 Boys

* In 50metres Butterfly Maayaa Ayawere won the race to Grab Gold whiles her compatriot Rebecca Korantemaa Gayathri Asare got Bronze

*The afternoon event was climax with another Powerful mixed quartet (Rebecca Korantemaa Gayathri Asare, Maayaa Ayawere, Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh and Captain Kow Asafua Jackson) fired to get Gold in 4 x 50 metres freestyle mixed relay G1

Papa Yaw Poku-Dwumoh broke the championship record of 31. 84 set by Nigerian Eniyekanine Duke in 50metres Backstroke G1 Boys to set a new championship records, 2 records were also broke by TeamGhana swimmer and Captain Kow Asafua Jackson in 200 metres freestyle and 100metres Breaststroke. Whiles the Iron lady Maayaa Ayawere set a new championship record in 100metres freestyle Girls.
Team in Day 2 has 19 medals
10 Gold, 6 silver and 3 Bronze
