Stigmatization Cause Of Increased Case Of HIV Infections – Rev. Akyerekwa

The minister in charge of the Christ Chapel Int. Mission in Agona Swedru, Rev. James Akyerekwa Jnr. Has expressed regret about recent report that out of a number of recorded people infected with the Human Immune Virus [HIV], about 80% of them have Christianity background.

Since the release of the report about a month ago, most people, including the Clergy have expressed shock, admitting that the church, especially the Charismatic have neglected its responsibility of preaching about morality, and rather have resorted to preaching prosperity and false prophecies.

Commenting on the report, Rev. Akyerekwa noted that the situation is a wake-up call for the church to focus on preaching the true word of God that affects the life of the congregation positively, and refrain from promising the congregation visas and marriages.

He attributed the report to stigmatization attached to people infected with the virus by society, which he said make people shy to go for test to know their status, thereby increasing the rate of infection unknowingly.

He however assured that all is not lost, despite the shocking report.
