Students Take Center Stage In Clean-Up Exercise

The Old Students Association of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion School in Agona Swedru in collaboration with members of the Church as well as students of Frankeve Vocational and Technical Institute, last Saturday took centre stage of the National Sanitation Day exercise when they swept some principal streets and desilted major drainages of filth through town.

The exercise which took about four hours also saw personnel of the Ghana Police Servise, members of the Zabon Zongo Community as well as members of the public and the media participating.

The Chairman of the AME Old Students Association, Nana Amoani Otabil who spoke to the media after the exercise said as part of its 1st Anniversary celebration, the Association deemed it as a social responsibility of contributing meaningfully to society, hence its decision to participate in the exercise, though he noted that its members have always engaged themselves individually in the previous exercises.

The Environmental and Sanitation Health Officer of the Municipality, Mr. George Freeman on his part commended the students for seeing the need of getting themselves involved in the quest of helping clean the environment, and also called on all citizens of the town to join the fray in subsequent exercises.
