With the low standard of education in the Central Region, some traditional rulers in the region have set education as their top most priority to help change the trend.
Two of such rulers are the Queen Mother of Gomoa Aboso, Nana Aba Ayeraba II and the Guantuahen of Agona Nyakrom, Nana Adu Peseko VII.
As part of effort to promote quality education in her area, the Queen Mother,Nana Aba Ayeraba has enrolled some out of school children in her area in school, providing them uniforms, school bags, exercise books with other learning materials as well as daily pocket money for food.
Speaking to the New Independent in an interview, the Queen Mother said her aim as a mother and tradition ruler is to ensure that every child of school going age in her area gets access to quality education.
She blamed the low standard of education in the region which was once touted as the hub and citadel of education to the lack of parental care by some parents of the education of their children.
On his part, the Guatuaahen of Agona Nyakrom, Nana Adu Peseko in collaboration with some eminent personalities in the town, and with the support of the Paramount Chief of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Nyarko Eku X have established what they call Association of Quality Education and Development Attainment [ASQEDA] to support the education of brilliant but needy students in the area.
So far, over fifty students in both Junior, Senior High and Tertiary Institutions are said to have benefited from the scholarship scheme instituted by the Association.
According to Nana Adu Peseko, some of the beneficiary students are also in the various Training Colleges and Nursing Training Schools across the country, with seven of them studying abroad in various fields of academics.
He hinted that the objective of formation of the Association is to produce a new generation of academicians who will take over the mantle of leadership from the older generation to develop the area.
