World Breastfeeding Week 2017

World Breastfeeding Week 2017

From 1st – 7th August 2017, the world celebrates World Breastfeeding Week.

This year, our focus for the week is around the support system that all mothers need to help them breastfeed.

The company aims to help our employees and their children live healthier and happier lives as part of our purpose: enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future. We are committed to supporting breastfeeding and protecting it by continuing to implement an industry-leading policy to market breastmilk substitutes responsibly.

Nestlé was the first breast milk substitute manufacturer to be included in the FTSE4Good Index, and to have retained its place for five years. FTSE4 Good Index is the only responsible investment index with criteria on the responsible marketing of BMS.

We firmly believe that breast milk is the ideal nutrition for babies. This is why we support and promote the World Health Organization’s recommendation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.

Here in Central and West Africa, we do all we can to support breastfeeding. We create awareness by engaging with parents and mothers-to-be across the region to source guidance on good nutrition for their babies through theNestlé Start Healthy Stay Healthy Facebook page. Also, the Nestlé CWAR Parental Policy creates flexible working arrangements and a conducive work environment to breastfeed.

Additional, we are working closely with healthcare professionals to help them provide parents with objective nutrition advice for babies and young children. We are also collaborating closely with governments across the region to provide education on the maternal and infant nutrition, as well as the importance of breastfeeding.
