STOP ALLOWING CHURCH ACTIVITIES IN CLASSROOMS

The Minister in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah has advised Heads of Basic Schools to stop allowing churches to use classrooms of their schools as places of worship on Sundays and in the evenings, because according to him, the activities of these churches turn to destroy the school infrastucture such as doors, windows and furniture.

A Christian himself, Professor Yankah noted that he is no way against the Christian religion, but noted that it is hard time Heads of Basic Schools realize that school infrastructure are provided as a place of convenience for conducive learning, and not for any activities other that purpose.

The Minister gave this advise when he commissioned a 6-Unit Classroom block with furnitire for the Salvation Army Basic School at Agona Swedru in the Central Region.

The project which was constructed by the Agona West Municipal Assembly replaces a delapidated old structure which posed as death trap to both students and teachers.

Some by-standers who witnessed the commissioning of the project described the Ministers speech as ”hammering the nail right on the head.”

In the evening and one Sundays one could count not less than five churches holding activities in classrooms of a single school, a situation which has become a source of worry to many concerned individuals.
